Danièle Bonnardot is a true practitioner of common sense and a breath of fresh air in Burgundy’s off-the-beaten-path Hautes Côtes de Nuits. Since taking the family domaine from her ill brother in 2005, she has fostered a strong sense of collaboration both among her peers and among her team, helping to raise the bar in the appellation and in her own wines. She farms 21 hectares of vines, primarily on the steep slopes of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits on a solid bedrock of Comblanchien limestone. Although a sustainable farmer, some of her methods surpass even organic farming standards—such as using cow’s milk rather than copper sulfate to eradicate rot. After the harvest, all of her grapes undergo vinifications on native yeasts for up to 25 days. Her wines reflect her personality and unique management style. True to their terroir and rich in fruit, complexity and finesse, they offer endless refreshment and a harmonious finish.
