Reuilly "Tradition" Sauvignon Blanc
Domaine Aujard is a small family-owned producer in the under-appreciated Centre Loire AOC of Reuilly. Situated just a (lime)stone's throw away from the famed terroirs of Sancerre, Reuilly's terroirs feature calcareous limestone soils intermingled with fine clays and ancient sands. Similar to its neighboring Quincy in style, the wines here are exuberant, elegant, but not without a distinct mineral structure.
Founded in 1988, the second-generation Damien Aujard took over the Domaine Aujard estate from his father Bertrand in 2012, and his brother David joined soon after. Damien and David sustainably farm 8 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir with the lutte raisonnée philosophy as their guiding principle, and most of their farming performed organically (though not certified).
The Aujards employ the use of cover crops, which helps to limit any treatment usage. In addition to preferring to use only organic treatments (and only when necessary) Damien says that he would like to make the conversion to Biodynamic farming in the next 5 years as well.
Damien and David aim to make bright, pure, and structured wines as their house style, employing both strict debudding and green harvest measures to ensure quality. Harvest is mechanical, as (like many places in the Loire) their equipment is shared with local, like-minded growers of the area. Their Sauvignon Blanc-based wines are gently pressed, and fermented and aged in stainless steel, to retain as much of the Reuilly terroir's freshness as possible.
These wines represent an incredible value and Aliane Wines is thrilled to be the sole US importer of these delicious, unique Loire Valley wines.
